The return to the winner circle for Tiger Woods is going to have to be put on hold for at least another month or two. Tiger played great on Thursday and Friday at the Wyndham Championship but didn’t make many birdies on the weekend. CBS was the real winner as TV ratings were the highest they have been for a non-major in three years…Saturday at the Wyndham drew the same amount as viewers as Saturday at Whistling Straights. Unbelievable. Congratulations to Davis Love III on his victory. DL3 is now the third oldest PGA Tour winner of all time and will get to play in the Masters next year for the first time since 2011.

FedEx Cups Playoffs: The Barclays

This week marks the start up the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The Barclays is being held at Plainfield CC in Edison, NJ. The tournament was held at this venue in 2011 so course history is available but not very relevant. They have changed the course from a par 71 to a par 70 and it will play just over 7,000 yards. The 2011 event was limited to 54 holes and Dustin Johnson came out the winner. The top 10 had a mix of styles though with guys like Snedeker, Y.E. Yang, Camilo Villegas and Webb Simpson also making appearances. Since there are only two par 5s I am going to look mostly at par 4 scoring, par 4 birdies or better, and recent form. My new ranking formula didn’t have a great coming out party…The results are

  • 26 - Will Wilcox: 17.80
  • MC - Hideki Matsuyama: 19.00
  • 6 - Brooks Koepka: 22.10
  • 4 - Paul Casey: 27.38
  • MC - Russell Knox: 28.47
  • 6 - Bill Haas: 29.70
  • 56 - Justin Thomas: 32.73
  • 43 - Brandt Snedeker: 34.05
  • 6 - Webb Simpson: 43.05
  • MC - Brendon Todd: 43.95
  • MC - Daniel Berger: 49.00
  • MC - Billy Horschel: 51.05
  • 31 - Harris English: 51.07

2015 The Barclays Fantasy Power Rankings

Justin Thomas and Snedeker could have made the results a bit more respectable had they not shot 75s on Sunday. Really poor efforts from guys that I expected to take advantage of a gettable course on Sunday. I’m not sure how to explain Matsuyama’s missed cut. Here are the rankings for this week with low numbers being best.

  • 1) Jordan Spieth 1.77
  • 2) Jason Day 5.53
  • 3) Brooks Koepka 11.33
  • 4) Robert Streb 15.90
  • 5) Will Wilcox 16.20
  • 6) Justin Rose 16.23
  • 7) Bubba Watson 17.30
  • 8) Brendan Steele 19.70
  • 9) Hideki Matsuyama 21.50
  • 10) Zach Johnson 22.13
  • 11) Jason Bohn 22.60
  • 12) Dustin Johnson 24.40
  • 13) Matt Kuchar 25.73
  • 14) Jim Furyk 26.90
  • 15) Paul Casey 28.10
  • 16) Tony Finau 29.73
  • 17) Henrik Stenson 32.43
  • 18) Patrick Reed 32.57
  • 19) Adam Scott 34.03
  • 20) Justin Thomas 34.03

Honestly I like the way these rankings shake out so I am going to go with these results. The one name that I like and that isn’t included in this top 20 is Russell Henley. I’d easily plug him in over Adam Scott.
