I enjoy the FedEx Cup, and while that wasn't always the case, it is now. Going back in the archives of this blog you can find a massive amount of criticism that has slowly waned over the years and that's a good thing for the PGA Tour and its playoff system. Is it perfect? No, but it's better, and that's what matters. Golf is a sport that you wouldn't on its best day call progressive. It rarelyRead More

Phil Mickelson was so impressive on his way to a fifth major championship on Sunday that it's difficult to really put what he did into perspective. Muirfield was a fast and firm monster, spitting golf balls off the green and fairways and swallowing them hole in the rough and bunkers, but Lefty was able to tame the beast for his first British Open win. We should never be too surprised when PhilRead More

It's time for the PGA Tour to take its yearly trip over seas for the only major championship not played on US soil. It's the oldest major in golf and the usual charms found at a major championship course are still there, but in a different way.
Welcome back an old friend... the Open Championship.
This year's playground is Muirfield in Gullane, Scotland. Reports fromRead More

Nick Faldo, a six-time major winner turned Golf Channel analyst was prophetic when he warned Rory McIlroy that switching equipment wasn't a wise decision. He said, "You can't mess with that at such a young age." Though 2012 was a banner year for McIlroy, Faldo's warning that McIlroy would suffer seems to be ringing true this year.
He's gone from Player of the Year in 2012 to aRead More

The 2013 US Open will return to Merion Golf Club for the first time since 1981. Starting Thursday, the current crop of the best golfers in the world will be treated to an old-school course rich in tradition, with closed oval-shaped baskets atop the pins instead of traditional flags.
Merion plays at just under 7,000 yards so golfers will not be challenged with length off the teeRead More

Winning 14 major championships and dominating a sport for over a decade pays big.
Tiger Woods returned to the top of the Forbes list of highest paid active athletes after being ousted by Floyd Mayweather in 2012. He held the top spot for more than 10 years, starting in 2001, until his November 2009 infidelity scandal caught up with him and he lost Gatorade, Buick and Gillette asRead More

We are two days removed from Tiger Woods winning THE PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass and instead of looking ahead to the HP Byron Nelson Championship starting on Thursday, all you hear is outrage over TIger's latest sin on the golf course.
Let's enter the time machine... it's Saturday at THE PLAYERS on the Par 5 second hole. Sergio Garcia is standing over his ball and gettingRead More

THE PLAYERS Championship opened up the second round today and if the first round is any indication of what is to come, we're in for a solid weekend of golf.
Roberto Castro, in his debut at TPC Sawgrass, tied the course record with an opening round 63 (-9) and closed the day with a three shot lead. If that's not confidence building, I don't know what is.

I wasn’t expecting to play nine holes of golf when I went home to see my family last weekend. With a busy schedule of a birthday party for my nephews, seeing friends, trying to squeeze in a bike ride and not much time to do it all, I told my dad there wasn’t enough time to get nine holes in.
What I should have been expecting is that I was going to be playing golfRead More
