The Accenture Match Play Championship tees off on Wednesday, the first tournament of the year in the World Golf Championships and for the first time in 2014, we’re looking at a very stacked lineup of heavy hitters in the golf world.

The best part of this tournament is the bracket-style, Match Play format. It’s a nice twist to the typical 72-hole stroke play golf we get most weekends. For golf fans, it’s March Madness in February that features one-on-one matchups, seeded 1-16. Much like March Madness, it’s a headache to try and predict the winner, but awesome to watch and follow along. This blog is used to golf-picking headaches, so let’s get to it.

First off, a look at the No. 1 seeds:

Bobby Jones No. 1 Seed: Henrik Stenson

Ben Hogan No. 1 Seed: Rory McIlroy

Gary Player No. 1 Seed: Justin Rose

Sam Snead No. 1 Seed: Zach Johnson

None of these players, though they have earned that No. 1 seed, is going to be my pick for this tournament. I’m still unsure about McIlroy’s game and while Rose, Johnson and Stenson are all formidable players, No. 1 seeds typically have a way of getting upset.

These are the golfers I think will advance to the Final Four in each division:

Bobby Jones: Jason Day (2)

Ben Hogan: Charl Schwartzel (4)

Gary Player: Jordan Spieth (3)

Sam Snead: Dustin Johnson (2)

It’s not really going out on a limb by picking high seeds that aren’t No. 1’s, but each of these golfers, especially Spieth, is showing a lot of promise early this season. Anything can happen in Match Play and a few bad holes can really kill a guy’s chances, but that’s what makes this tournament so great.

All that said, I’m taking Spieth to win it all.

Who ya got?
