- Graeme McDowell, Yani Tseng and Bernhard Langer were voted Player of the Year by the Golf Writers Association of America. McDowell was a a huge factor in Europe's Ryder Cup win and also brought home a U.S. Open trophy. Langer won back-to-back majors on the Senior Tour. Tseng was the female player of the year and also won back-to-back majors on her circuit. And if you're wondering, this blog - for some reason - has not yet been awarded a vote by the GWAA, though a petition will be started in early 2011. Each will be honored April 16, 2011 at the GWAA Annual Awards Dinner in Augusta, GA.

- Strange Quote/Tweet of the Week: "@JasonSobel: Lee Westwood says he'd rather be No. 1 than win a major. Uh-huh. And he also really likes those socks you bought him for Christmas. Really." Let's be honest, being No. 1 might have its perks, but not in the golf world. You play to win majors, not galivant and brag that you're No. 1 on a list that no one cares about. The only time it was relevant was when Tiger was no longer atop it. Moving on...

- The Tiger Woods saga was voted the AP Story of the Year. Like you, I am not surprised by this at all. However, it's too bad for the sport of golf that the one time it claims a story of the year honor, it has to do with it's most popular player's antics off the course. It has now become awkward every time someone screams "GET IN THE HOLE" after a Woods shot. This practice should have been abandoned a long time ago, and now it just leads to a quiet chuckle and eye roll.

- Before the US can completely get over its loss at the 2010 Ryder Cup, captains for 2012 have been announced. Davis Love III and Jose Maria Olazabal are on tap to captain for the U.S. and Europe, and I'm sure I don't have to clarify who's on what side. And don't forget, the next time you have the opportunity to name a child, keep Jose Maria in mind. It is in no way gender-confusing. I promise.

- In other baby news, Anika Sorenstam is expecting her second child. It's my belief she could continue dominating the LPGA, while pregnant. Wouldn't that be must-see TV?
